Transcript available: OpenSim Discussion in SL

Hi. I've just finished summarizing and cleaning up the transcript of yesterday's very interesting discussion about OpenSim, open source software being developed to enable creation of 3D virtual worlds. The discussion took place on the Digital Library Federation's (DLF) Second Life island, Entropia, and was led by Noah Wittman, UC Berkeley. Among the audience members were two people from Linden Labs, the group that runs Second Life: Pathfinder Linden and Tess Linden.

You are welcome to read and comment on the summary and transcript, posted on the DLF wiki:

Digital Humanities Manifesto

Just received from Dave Shepard, UCLA grad student in digital humanities...

The Digital Humanities Manifesto that we have been discussing in the Mellon Seminar has now been published on our WordPress blog at http://dev.cdh.ucla.edu/digitalhumanities/2008/12/15/digital-humanities-manifesto/, and is now open and ready for comments. This software allows you to comment on each paragraph in the manifesto, so you will be able to focus your comments on the appropriate section--for example, to add new departments to the new departments for the Humanities Division section. To join the blog, click on one of the links in the "comments overview" window in the middle of the screen, and then click on "Create an Account."

We look forward to your comments and suggestions on all aspects of the manifesto. This is intended to be, as Todd and Jeffrey have said, a collaboratively-authored document, so our joint authorship is an integral part of the process.

Best,
David
